Natural Form Y1

Natural Form Project Y1
I was given the brief to look at everything natural. I took a trip to the Natural World museum in Liverpool, this is where i collected my primary research and photographs. It was the starting point of the project and my outcome was to design a set of samples and a final outcome of a top or a skirt.

Here i small section of some observational drawings of natural form. I focused on butterflies as i felt that this could be shown in so many different varieties and to could be expanded further by experimenting with butterfly using their colour, shapes and sizes.

Looking at Alison Willoughby helped me to visualise my final top or skirt and she used a lot of techniques that i can bring into my own work and different way to create by looking at different colour contrast and layering.

Stephan Sagmeister was an artists who specialised in graphics and i looked at his work to help inspire me to create natural form postcards by referring back to my primary drawing from the museums i visited. I found his work inspiring especially the ones of his face, thats what inspired me to create my sketchbook like this as the cut out shapes lift off the page to reveal the information underneath.

During this project i experimented using a stencil print by making up a stencil from a design in my book, looking back at primary drawings and began to roll ink onto paper then placing my design under a huge roller to help refine your print better. I also wanted to experiment using different colours as it would help me to see what works best. I worked into some of my designs later with acrylic paint however i feel the original design was more successful.

This is my favourite sample from this project. I used the techniques entrapment and i layered strips of fabric with plastic and stitched various sewing machine stitches using different designs from straight to zig zag, squares and blanket stitch also changing the width of the stitch.
